Here are some notable nuggets that happened during Mets’ spring training on Friday:
Bombs away
Francisco Lindor, Khalil Lee, J.D. Davis and Brett Baty all homered for the Mets in an intrasquad scrimmage in front of a few thousand fans at Clover Park (admission was free).
Too aggressive
Brandon Nimmo was nailed at the plate attempting to score from second base on a single to center. Nimmo was thrown out by Jake Mangum.
Caught my eye
Manager Buck Showalter used a lineup for one team that easily could pass for his Opening Day nine, with the exception of Nick Plummer, who subbed for Starling Marte. That lineup consisted of Robinson Cano (DH), James McCann (C), Pete Alonso (1B), Jeff McNeil (2B), Eduardo Escobar (3B), Lindor (SS), Mark Canha (LF), Nimmo (CF) and Plummer (RF).
Today’s schedule
Left-hander Josh Walker will get the start for the Mets in their Grapefruit League opener in West Palm Beach against the Nationals at 6 p.m.
