MSNBC host Joy Reid has come under fire for comparing Kyle Rittenhouse to Brett Kavanaugh – slamming both men as “Karens” and claiming they both benefited from ingenuine “white male tears.”
“It reminded a lot of people of something … Oh, the Brett Kavanaugh hearing,” the far-left host said about the images of Rittenhouse, 18, sobbing during his murder trial in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Kavanaugh also broke down during his 2018 Senate Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
Kavanaugh “cried his way through the hearings” Reid, 52, said, as he sought to become “permanent member and associate justice of the Supreme Court.”
“And his [Kavanaugh’s] tears turned out to be more powerful than the tears of Christine Blasey Ford [his accuser],” the liberal host said.
“But in America, there’s a thing about both white vigilantism and white tears, particularly male white tears. Really white tears in general, because, that’s what Karens are, right?”
She added: “They can Karen out and then as soon as they get caught, bring waterworks.”
Last week, Rittenhouse cried on the stand while testifying in his own defense, sparking a flurry of criticism from the left.
The teen, who is charged with fatally shooting two men and wounding a third during a night of protests against racial injustice 2020, has pleaded not guilty.
He faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison if convicted of the most serious charge. The jury will enter its third day of deliberations Thursday.
Kavanaugh was accused of sexual misconduct by Ford, his high school classmate, after being nominated by then-President Trump.
During his hearings, he gave an emotional denial of her allegations before being confirmed to the high court.
Reid’s inflammatory comments sparked fury and accusations of racism online.
Conservative commentator and Fox News contributor Leo Terrell, who is black, accused Reid, who also is black, of racism.
“Joy Reid, something is wrong with her,” he said on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show Wednesday night. “She is the queen of racism. She has a problem with white men.”
“And her reference to two situations, where she said things from the ’50s. What do you mean the ’50s? This man, Kyle Rittenhouse, did not kill any black people so I don’t know her reference to the ’50s,” Terrell said.
“And she is not a lawyer. And how dare she attack this judge and claim he’s biased?” he added.
Political commentator Alexandra Datig said in a tweet: “Shame on MSNBC! How Dare Joy Reid, Who is Not a Lawyer, Attack Rittenhouse Judge Claiming He is Bias! Offensive and Wrong!”
Author Douglas Murray wrote: “What a crazy old racist Joy Reid is.”
And conservative speaker and author Melissa Tate said that Reid “operates under the same spirit of hatred & racism the kkk & nazi’s operate under.”
“Just replace the word white with Jew every time she speaks & she sounds like Hitler on in 1933. The left has engineered a society where it’s ok to openly spew vile racism towards whites,” she added.
