Spider-Man must be immune to Omicron.
Not even a nationwide COVID spike could dissuade Marvel fans from seeing the web-slinger’s latest flick, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which shattered expectations after raking in $33 million for the fourth consecutive weekend, Deadline reported.
This puts the superhero flick’s cumulative gross at a mind-boggling $668.7 million, which will make it the sixth-highest grossing film at the domestic box office, eclipsing James Cameron’s “Titanic” ($659.3 million).
In fact, given “No Way Home’s” momentum, it’s likely on track to surpassing another Tom Holland blockbuster: “Avengers: Infinity War” ($678.8 million).
However, as Uproxx pointed out, these record-making totals don’t factor in inflation, which would put “Titanic’s” two-decade-old gross at higher than $1 billion today. Meanwhile, “Titanic” has grossed $2.2 billion globally — approximately $3.8 billion in today’s money — compared to “No Way Home’s” $1.5 billion at the international box office.
Along with being a commercial hit, the John Watt Spider-Man reboot franchise’s finale is also a critical hit, scoring a 93% fresh rating with critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Post’s film critic Johnny Oleksinski called the flick “deeply satisfying,” and praised Tom Holland’s performance as one for the ages.
“This time, his Peter’s got gravitas, emotional oomph, brutality, believable love, an anguished scene in the rain!” he wrote. “The movie is the actor’s best performance yet, in anything, Spandex or no.”
