NYPD should face hateful conduct: de Blasio

Mayor de Blasio said on Thursday that police should confront people accused of “hurt” behavior – even if the behavior did not rise to the level of crime.

Asked if the NYPD and the city could do more to thwart the disturbing turmoil in hate crimes against Asians, Hizoner suggested that the warning may be a last resort.

“Even though there is no criminal case, whether a criminal is hitting the city, whether it is the NYPD or any other agency, and being told that what they have done was very traumatic for another person – and, If ever repeated, criminal charges can lead – this is another important part of the puzzle, ”de Blasio told reporters.

“So we need these reports,” he said.

Asked how the so-called “confrontation” would work, De Blasio said the NYPD had already been trained to warn.

“If someone has done something wrong, but is not rising to a criminal level, then it is perfectly appropriate for a NYPD officer to talk to them, ‘It was not fair, and if you did it at a high level If it is, it will be a crime, ” he said.

“I think it has an educated impact on people. I think it has a significant impact that we need. So we need every report. “

De Blasio suggested that a simple warning could prevent further violence.

“I assure you, if an NYPD officer calls you or shows up at your door that you’ve done something, it makes people think twice,” he said. “we need this.”
