An Ohio waitress was allegedly shot and killed during work by her ex-boyfriend – who pleaded not guilty to strangulation in front of her coworkers on Tuesday.
Rebecca Jean Rogers, 38, was allegedly shot by her ex, Richard Nelson, 54, while she waited at the Bob Evans restaurant in Canton on Friday morning The Akron Beacon Journal reported.
“Customers covered under table,” Canton Police Chief Jack Angelo Told the news station WKYC.
By the time officers arrived, Nelson had run from the back of the restaurant, Angelo said.
“When we got there, we only detected one victim,” Angelo said of Rogers, who was hit by two gunfire.
He was brought to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries, the outlets reported.
Police said officers searched hours for Nelson and tracked him down Friday night in East Cantt.
He said that he was taken into custody on charges of aggravated murder in Rogers’ death.
Nelson – who has a rap sheet that includes assault and failure to obey a police officer’s orders – pleaded not guilty to the charge on Tuesday, the outlets reported.
He was ordered on $ 2 million and is expected to appear in court again on Thursday.
