One of the NYPD cops shot in the Bronx during a melee with an armed man will be released from the hospital Thursday, cops said.
The female officer, an Air Force reservist with one year on the job — who fired back at the gunman after he shot her twice in the arm — is set to be released from St. Barnabas Hospital in the late morning, according to authorities.
“We have a lot to be thankful for certainly today,” Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said on the Today Show along the route of Thanksgiving Day Parade. “[The officers are] doing well, relatively speaking. We anticipate one will get out today, one is probably going to have to spend a couple days in the hospital.”
The shooting unfolded around 8 p.m. Wednesday, when police received a call for a person with a gun near East 187th Street and Beaumont Avenue in the Belmont section, police sources said.
The cops were in uniform when they arrived and spotted a person who matched a description of the suspect sitting on a stoop.
New video obtained by The Post Thursday, showing a wider view of the fracas, captures the officers walking up to the stoop where the gunman was sitting.
The male officer, who opened the gate and approached first, told the man to remove his hands from his pockets. The gunman then immediately pulled out a Ruger handgun and opened fire, according to police.
The female officer was shot twice in the upper right arm and returned fire five times, hitting the suspect.
The male officer, an eight-year veteran, struggled with the suspect and wrestled him to the ground, the footage shows. That officer was shot in the armpit during the struggle.
Both cops were taken to St. Barnabas, where they were listed in stable condition.
The suspect was also being treated at St. Barnabas and was expected to survive. He had not been charged by Thursday morning.
