This is the shocking moment two paratroopers collide in midair and plummet over 100 feet to the ground during a civilian event in Brazil, leaving one man dead and another seriously injured.

Both men were trying to land during their Nov. 13 jump. The highest of the two appears to lose control and descends right into his unsuspecting colleague’s parachute, causing both parachutes to entangle.

The men plunged about 115 feet to the ground, according to Newsflash.

They were taken to a local hospital in Rio de Janeiro. Erick Nascimento de Souza, 35, died from his injuries the same day. His colleague, Major Francisco Damiao Vieira Neto, remains hospitalized following surgery, the outlet reported.

The deceased victim, who lived in the city of Belem, left behind a wife and young son.

The Parachutist Support and Maintenance Battalion, of which De Souza was acting captain, said in a statement: “The activity that they were taking part in was of a civil nature and was coordinated by the Resende Parachuting Club.”
