Paris Region ICUs as COVID-19 Cases Reach 3-Month High ‘Near Saturation’

The country’s health officials said on Tuesday, March 9, that France was not planning to put the Paris region in lockdown, while the number of people with COVID-19 in intensive care was the highest in November.

At Melun Hospital Center, about 31 miles from Paris, staff said they are trying to monitor all COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit.

The head of the intensive care unit, Drs. Monsep Mochi said the area’s hospitals are approaching capacity.

On Monday in one of the intensive care in the hospital, Drs. Esther Mbakallu was intubating a patient under sedation – inserting a breathing tube that would pump excess oxygen into her airway. She said that her condition had worsened so she needed mechanical help to breathe.

She stated that the patient was knocked unconscious before inserting the tube.
