In one of the most emotional moments of a lifetime, the future king was only a grieving son.
Prince Charles was fighting with tears on Saturday after attending the scale-back pageantry of his father Prince Philip’s funeral.
The 72-year-old Prince of Wales, one of just 30 mourners who attended because of COVID-19 restrictions, was fired as he led his father’s coffin procession from Windsor Castle to St George’s Chapel.
As he entered the procession’s chapel, Charles shed tears. When he wore a black mask, Charles had a moment in his eyes, The Sun reported.
Charles and Queen Elizabeth II held a minute’s silence for the Duke of Edinburgh as the funeral began. The family was socially disoriented in the chapel, sitting in separate rows. During the service, Camilla Parker-Bowles shifted her position to move closer to her husband as they shed tears.
Charles made no public statement on Saturday, but paid tribute to his father last week following the death of the 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh.
“My dear father was a very special person who I think above all else was amazed at the reaction and poignant things he said about him and that we, my family, are deeply grateful for all that Am, ”he said in the statement.
“It will keep us in this particular loss and especially in the hour of grief. Thank you.”
