A family active in Queens’ Sikh community has donated three oxygen machines to New York City hospitals for COVID-19 patients.
Davinder Singh and his relatives donated one Invacare 10-liter oxygen machine to The Brooklyn Hospital Center, another to the Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn and the third to Flushing Hospital in Queens, said the family and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams at a press conference Sunday.
“Mr. Singh’s generous donation shows that we are all New Yorkers at the end of the day and we will get through this pandemic if we mobilize together,” Adams, the Democratic mayoral nominee, said outside the Brooklyn Hospital Center. “This is how we address COVID-19, by coming together as New Yorkers. As formidable as COVID-19 may be, we are formidable as New Yorkers in fighting back.
“This is what we do during a crisis,” he added. “We unite around each other to ensure we push back on the crisis.”
Singh, a 31-year-old third-year medical student at All Saints School of Medicine on the Caribbean island of Dominica, co-owns Peter & Danny Contractors with his 65-year-old father, Pritam Singh. Davinder said the family also donated three devices to medical facilities in India.
“We got to never forget our neighbors,” Davinder said. “These are key machines that can actually help save lives.”
LaRay Brown, head of One Brooklyn Health System/Interfaith Medical Center, said, “We are very grateful to the Singh family and Brooklyn Borough President Adams to have been selected as a recipient of this generous donation.
“This important medical equipment will add to our clinical staff’s toolkit to care for patients affected by COVID-19.”
