The Rams want to see a sea of blue Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
Ahead of this weekend’s NFC Championship game against the 49ers, members of the Rams organization have pleaded for fans to hold onto their tickets, namely the wife of tackle Andrew Whitworth, who told supporters Sunday she’d purchase the stubs in the chance someone was selling.
“If you @RamsNFL fans want to sell your tickets – I’ll buy them. Just DO NOT sell them to the other team PLEASE!” Melissa Whitworth exclaimed on Twitter.
Earlier this month, the Rams felt the visiting team in their own stadium when they faced the 49ers in Week 18. In fact, quarterback Matthew Stafford had to use a silent count when on the field, according to wife Kelly, in the 27-24 loss.
On Sunday, the same day the Rams defeated the Buccaneers in the Divisional Round, Ticketmaster — the league’s ticketing site — indicated that “public sales to the (NFC Championship) game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA will be restricted to residents of the Greater Los Angeles region,” per Pro Football Talk
.
As of Monday, however, the message about the restrictions was no longer on the Rams’ Ticketmaster site, according to The Mercury News. The game itself, though, is sold out.
“Our Season Ticket members bought up all available tickets during a presale over the weekend, so there is no policy in place,” a member of the Rams PR team said in a statement to ABC7 in Los Angeles.
The Rams aren’t the only team who hoped to limit the number of fans from the opposing team from attending a playoff game on their turf. Just last week, the Titans orchestrated a similar move to keep Bengals supporters at bay. Tennessee wound up getting bounced from the playoffs, which some Cincinnati fans had a front-row seat for.
Although the Rams’ biggest fans will be in attendance Sunday, expect 49ers supporters — those fortunate to get their hands on tickets, anyway — to make it clear that SoFi Stadium is their home away from home.
