Rangers responded to Tom Wilson’s sucker punch that sparked controversy: ‘zero respect’

The Rangers withdrew nothing after another Tom Wilson incident.

In the second period of Wednesday night’s Rangers-Capital matchup, the controversial Capitals caught a prone Pavel Buchaniewicz in the back of the head during a halt in the play.

The play sparked widespread controversy between Wilson and the Rangers players, with Wilson grabbing a helmet-less Artemi Panarin by the hair and slamming it onto the ice. Wilson’s conduct led to 10 minutes of misconduct.

Rangers head coach David Quinn and other New York players responded to Wilson’s play after the game last night.

Said Quinn:

We all saw it. There are lines that cannot be crossed in this game. There is just zero respect for the game in general. You have now got a star player in this league who could be seriously injured in that incident. You all saw what happened, and it happens time and time again with him. Completely unnecessary.

Rangers star Mika Jibanezad also struck a four.

I felt that you should have some more respect for the game and for the players. I honestly don’t know where to start. This is just terrible. Zero respect. I don’t know why I’m surprised. This is just terrible.

The Capitals official Twitter account also tweeted an image in the wake of the controversy, but it was quickly removed.

Rangers star Artemi Panarin was ruled out for the rest of the game (and season) after suffering a lower body injury.

Wilson has a history of suspensions in the league, one of the dirtiest players in the NHL. Now we will see if the NHL decides to hand him his fifth suspension.
