Rich people panicked as Aspen airport shuts for downed jet

Influencer, chic ski bunnies and the city’s one percent were left crying, “freaking out” and “moaning their private jets are… delayed” after a plane accident shut down Aspen’s airport.

A business jet headed for Texas skidded off the Tarmac at Pitkin County Airport before take-off, forcing authorities to stop other planes from using the airport’s runway for several hours while emergency vehicles attended to the scene — leaving the well-heeled travelers stranded (or at least moderately inconvenienced).

“People were screaming, crying, it was a zoo,” says a source of the chaotic scene at the airport after the delays were announced.

“People are stuck at the airport trying to get cars,” says another source at a tony resort — where a popular activity is a $5,000 mountaintop “experience” — with some resorting to taking a pricey three-hour taxi drive to Denver International.

“A big storm is hitting Aspen so people are worried they won’t be able to get out later,” says the source, with another adding, “It’s supposed to snow till Wednesday. Everyone will get stuck if they don’t get out.”

We’re told one prominent influencer was spotted “freaking out,” while another source tells us that people, “are moaning their private jets are now delayed.”

The Hawker 800 business jet slid off the runway at noon on its way to Austin, Texas, reports the Aspen Times. There were no injuries.

Airport director Dan Bartholomew tells Page Six that the jet “went off the end of the runway to the north. It is still on airport property.” They are currently investigating the cause and tell us the airport is set to re-open around 6:30 p.m. local time at the earliest.

We’re told plenty of New York City scenesters were in the chic ski town for the holiday weekend, taking the manicured slopes and throwing back expensive cocktails après-ski.

Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, performed a set at the ultra-hip Snow Lodge at the St. Regis Resort to promote her new EP called “The Lost.” Bob Moses also performed.

Snow Beach, a partnership between AspenX, Little Nell and photographer Gray Malin, opened its doors last month, offering “experiences” like mountaintop cabanas and caviar selections for $300 to $4,800.
