Rosie O’Donnell apologized to Priyanka Chopra for accidentally assuming that Deepak Chopra was her father.
The 59-year-old actress took to TikTok Sunday to explain how she “embarrassed” herself in front of Priyanka and her husband Nick Jonas — as well as her son, his girlfriend and buddy Fran Drescher — when she mistook Chopra for the daughter of self-help guru.
“So when I said, ‘Hi, Nick Jonas. You were great in “Kingdom” and ‘Hi, [Priyanka]. I know your dad.’ She goes, ‘You do? Who’s my dad?’ And I’m like, ‘Deepak.’”
“She’s like, ‘No, and Chopra is a common name.’ … I felt so embarrassed,” she said of the interaction, which took place at Nobu Malibu.
The father of the 39-year-old “Baywatch” actress, Dr. Ashok Chopra, died in June 2013.
The former talk show host went on to ask followers if they also believed the two Chopras were related before concluding, “Nick Jonas, I apologize and to the Chopra wife, I apologize too.”
Many followers immediately took issue with O’Donnell referring to the “We Can Be Heroes” star as “the Chopra wife,” with one user replying, “Maybe learn her name if you’re going to apologize.”
“Her name is Priyanka,” added another.
Shortly thereafter, O’Donnell issued a second apology while clearing up some misconceptions about Priyanka’s reaction.
“So I’m reading the comments about my [interaction with] Nick Jonas and his wife, Priyanka Chopra, who I mistakenly thought was Deepak’s daughter,” she said. “People thought that she was rude. She wasn’t rude, it was just awkward. I’m sure she gets sick of that. I’m sure I’m not the only one. According to the comments, a lot of people thought that too but she’s apparently a very well-known actress and more famous than him, people were saying. So I’m sure it felt weird to her, to begin with.”
“Anyway, Priyanka is her name. Priyanka,” she added. “I hope I’m pronouncing that right. I just want to apologize to her and to everyone who thought that it was really inappropriate of me. Sorry, sometimes I f–k up. I did at Nobu.”
Deepak, meanwhile, does have two children, author Mallika Chopra, 50, and filmmaker Gotham Chopra, 46.
