Royals prospect Bobby Witt Jr. may help fantasy owners on second base

As long as Fantasy baseball Players will tell you, this is from the ages when we have seen middle infield full of talent. More recent ADP data show you 16 middle infielders in the top 100 picks, but the depth is such that it still leaves big names such as Carlos Correa, Dansby Swanson and Mike Mowakas available in the first 10 rounds.

The shortstop is reminiscent of the A-Rod / Jeter / Nomar days and is full of talent, but the second base is extremely top-heavy and there is a serious lack of talent in the later rounds. Certainly, until some new options appear in recent spring training notes.

Top Royals prospect Bobby Witt Jr. is tearing it up during spring training. Over the weekend, the 20-year-old, a 2019 first-round pick, was batting. 289 with three home runs, seven RBIs and 10 runs scored. He not only has the respect of his teammates, but also the attention of manager Mike Matheny and general manager Dayton Moore.

Although Witt is a natural shortstop, Matheny is using him on second base and leading him. Meanwhile, during a recent appearance on “Fantasy Alarm Show” on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio, Moore said, “We are very open minded in this team as we break camp.” Although the Wit season will open as a fictional shortstop, the five games played on the second will require your eligibility.

In Cincinnati, manager David Bell shook things up by bringing third baseman Eugenio Suarez to shortstop and second baseman Mike Mowcakas back to third. Now, Bell is using the 24-year-old, 2018 first-round player Jonathan India.

India responded with a .370 / .500 / .704 slash line with two home runs, five RBIs, seven runs scored and a stolen base. Bell continues to use him in the middle of the order, though he can settle in around seventh. Still, on second base, a late grab of a man hitting for lightning in a bandbox may be just the edge you need.

As you keep the head in your draft, keep in mind the mid-center depth. There is nothing wrong in jumping early for shortstop. There is a lot in the top tier. But don’t panic when the second base runs out early. You have some real good reverse pics to delay your draft.
