Skydiver dies in parachute malfunction during competition

According to reports, a veteran skydiver was killed over the weekend for failing to open during a competition in Western Australia.

Dmitry Didenko, 30, died during the Virtual Australian Skydiving Championships on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm local time. 7 news report.

They competed solo in the wingsuit category, an elite version of skydiving in which a person flies into the air using a special jumpsuit, according to the report.

His parachutes did not open properly, leading to a fatal accident, citing the police.

Didenko, who was born in Russia and lived in Italy, participated in record-setting skydives and competitions around the world, the outlet reported.

According to 7 News, he had completed more than 6,000 jumps.

The outlet reported that friends on social media called Didenko the “greatest adventure partner”.

“I don’t know how the skies go, but I know that Dimitri’s soul will remain on those who really knew him and loved him,” a friend wrote. “A part of our family forever.”

While the Australian Championships are usually held in one location, this time they took place at seven different locations across the country – including Jurian Bay – due to the closure of the COVID border.

According to the report, each jump was recorded and fed to a GPS device called a flight scene, which is used for judges’ purposes.

The device, a black box on a skydiver’s helmet, now features a major rule in investigating Didenko’s death.

Police, as well as the Australian Parachute Federation, are handling the investigation.
