Najee Harris didn’t waste a second to call out the ESPN announcers after the Steelers’ win over the Bears.
During the broadcast of Pittsburgh’s thrilling “Monday Night Football” victory, Steve Levy, Brian Griese and Louis Riddick launched into a story about Harris’ youth, some of which he spent homeless living with a single mother in California. One tidbit from Levy raised eyebrows.
“Even when he got to [University of] Alabama on a full ride, got the fancy dorm room, he spent the first few months in Alabama sleeping on the floor,” Levy said of Harris. “He said he’s just more comfortable, more used to that.”
Minutes after the game was over, the rookie running back took to Twitter to clarify the story.
“Bra I ain’t sleep on no dam floor in college,” he tweeted. “I slept on my bed.”
It was a bit of a rough night for ESPN’s main crew, who were operating without the popular ESPN2 Manningcast on Monday as the Manning brothers took a night off. At the end of the game, Bears kicker Cairo Santos attempted a game-winning 65-yard field goal. Per the camera angle, the kick looked like it bounced off the post.
“Hits the crossbar and comes up short!” Levy said, emphatically.
But on a better view, it was revealed that the kick didn’t hit the crossbar at all, and was in fact several yards short. The ESPN crew announces from near midfield – and probably should have seen it.
