“The Matrix” is back in action.
The fourth film in the beloved sci-fi franchise released its first teaser footage via a new interactive fansite, WhatIsTheMatrix.com.
“The Matrix Resurrections” will drop its official trailer Thursday, however, fans got a taste of the new flick today.
The website shows the options of picking the infamous red or blue pill. As fans know, the red pill freed Keanu Reeves’ Neo from the Matrix in the first movie in 1999. The blue pill would have kept Neo enjoying his fake life.
The fansite allows the user to choose a pill and whatever time of day they’re using the website would determine which teaser clip they get to watch.
There are reportedly 180,000 video variations that include narrations and snippets of the film and its cast.
Reeves, 57, returns to the series in one teaser clip. “Candyman” star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II says in one video: “This is the moment for you to show us what is real. Right now you believe it’s … but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Could be this is the first day of the rest of your life, but if you want it, you gotta fight for it.”
Fans who went to CinemaCon this summer were able to get a glimpse of the movie. However, the site shares the first official footage of the Wachowskis’ acclaimed series. For the fourth installment, only Lana Wachowski will direct while Lilly Wachowski will sit out.
Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Christina Ricci also star in the newest installment.
Other snapshots from the various teasers show Neo getting hit by an agent. Another showed Reeves and Abdul-Mateen competing in a martial-arts sparring match. One scene featured a black cat, one of the franchise’s symbols for having a glitch in the Matrix.
“The Matrix Resurrections” will debut in theaters and on HBO Max Dec. 22.
