At least he can use Tom Brady as a reference.
Brady’s trainer Alex Guerrero joked Tuesday about finding a new job in the wake of the quarterback’s retirement after 22 NFL seasons. Guerrero, who has teamed with Brady on the TB12 Sports endeavors, first congratulated the seven-time Super Bowl champ in a heartfelt Instagram message.
“Where to even begin? The past 16 years have meant more to me than I could’ve ever imagined. To think back to where we started makes it all seem like another lifetime. To not only be able to call you a business partner or a friend, but a brother is something I will never take for granted. Here’s to you TB. And to your incredible career. Thank you for letting me be a part of it all,” Guerrero penned.
“Currently updating my resume. Anyone out there looking for a body coach?”
Brady, 44, later responded to Guerrero’s post, “Hahahahhaa love you @ag_tb12.”
Considered Brady’s right-hand man, Guerrero has long been part of the quarterback’s journey. In 2017, however, Guerrero made headlines when Patriots coach Bill Belichick allegedly revoked his credentials, according to a report from The Boston Globe
.
Weeks later, Guerrero attempted to clear up rumors of an alleged conflict with Belichick in a letter entitled, “In My Own Words.”
“I have always tried to be respectful of the staff each player answers to, and I have never tried to create divisiveness or conflict,” Guerrero wrote at the time. “My ultimate goal has always been to do my very best to help the player get back on the field and help their team. I have never had any motive other than that.”
Following Brady’s departure from New England, Guerrero noted in a September 2021 interview that the quarterback’s breakup with the Patriots was “a Bill thing.”
“I think in time, with Tom, as Tom got into his late 30s or early 40s, I think Bill was still trying to treat him like that 20-year-old kid that he drafted. And all the players, I think, realized Tom was different,” Guerrero told the Boston Herald at the time.
“He’s older, so he should be treated differently. And all the players, none of them would have cared that he was treated differently. I think that was such a Bill thing. He never evolved. So you can’t treat someone who’s in his 40s like they’re 20. It doesn’t work.”
Although Brady ignored the Patriots in Tuesday’s official retirement message, he did thank Guerrero, as well as agent Don Yee, Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians, and wife Gisele Bündchen, among others.
“My playing career has been such a thrilling ride, and far beyond my imagination, and full of ups and downs. When you’re in it every day, you really don’t think about any kind of ending. As I sit here now, however, I think of all the great players and coaches I was privileged to play with and against — the competition was fierce and deep,” Brady wrote on Instagram. “But the friendships and relationships are just as fierce and deep. I will remember and cherish these memories and re-visit them often. I feel like the luckiest person in the world.”
