Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton are engaged!
The “Loki” star and “The Handmaid’s Tale” actress are set to wed, as confirmed by Page Six Thursday, and her ring is totally swoon-worthy.
Featuring an oval-cut diamond surrounded by a halo of smaller stones, 37-year-old Ashton’s ring is definitely a showstopper.
Mike Fried, CEO of The Diamond Pro (who did not work on Ashton’s ring), tells Page Six Style that “her center diamond looks to be 5 carats, and I’d estimate the value to be near $150,000.”
Adds Fried, “The vintage flair of her ring offers a classic touch with plenty of character. There’s no doubt Tom took a lot of time to design such a stunning ring.”
Speaking of vintage flair, Hollywood jeweler Neil Lane told Page Six Style in 2019 that this ring shape was a popular Victorian trend.
“They’re called flower rings, cluster rings, they were popular in the 19th century,” the jeweler to the stars said, adding that “when you put a sparkle around the central stone, it enhances it and it’s also very pretty.”
Engagement rumors began swirling after Sunday’s 2022 BAFTAs when Ashton, who was wearing a flowing pink Emilia Wickstead dress, showed up with a very large diamond on her ring finger.
The stunning sparkler was seen on display in a photo posted by British TV presenter and Grazia contributing editor AJ Odudu on March 15. In the photo, Ashton is clutching Odudu’s arm, with the massive ring in full view.
Although she was spied wearing a diamond on her left hand late last year at the British Fashion Awards and at the “Fresh Meat” 10th anniversary screening in January, it somehow escaped widespread notice.
This was the first time her ring was shown off up close — and it wasn’t long before the engagement was confirmed.
Ashton’s diamond stunner is right on trend, mirroring the style of both Katy Perry’s beautiful ruby-and-diamond engagement ring and Lady Gaga’s fabulous pink flower-shaped sparkler.
The actress’ ring also gives us major royal wedding vibes: While it doesn’t feature a colored center stone, it’s quite similar in style to the ones worn by Princess Eugenie and Kate Middleton.
In 2019, Ashton and Hiddleston both starred in the play “Betrayal” alongside Charlie Cox both in London and on Broadway, and Ashton told the Post she and her co-stars “instantly trusted each other.”
“We were nicknamed ‘The Trupple’ by the crew, because we’d just go everywhere together!” she said. “Every evening after rehearsal, we’d all sit down and have a cup of tea and talk. We had the best time!”
Although they’ve been linked since 2019, the newly engaged couple only made their red carpet debut together at the Tony Awards in September 2021, when Hiddleston, 41, was nominated for an award for his performance in “Betrayal.”
Since then, the famously private duo has been seen out and about together at various events, with the BAFTAs ring-flashing episode sealing their status as future husband and wife.
