Twitter on Tuesday said that the company has been working on an edit button — but the feature was not the result of a recent poll by newly-minted board member Elon Musk.
The social media company said that they have been working on the edit option since last year and will introduce it to Twitter Blue — a paid monthly subscription service of the site that offers exclusive features.
“now that everyone is asking… yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year!” the company said in a statement posted on the platform.
“no, we didn’t get the idea from a poll,” they added with a winking-face emoji.
“we’re kicking off testing within @TwitterBlue Labs in the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.”
On Monday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted a poll on Twitter that asked users if they would prefer an edit button on the site to alter their tweets after they are sent out.
The poll came after Musk disclosed a 9.2% stake in Twitter earlier in the day, worth nearly $3 billion, that made him the micro-blogging site’s largest shareholder.
Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal announced on Tuesday that Musk was asked to join the company’s board of directors.
“Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our Board,” CEO Parag Agrawal said in a tweet.
“He’s both a passionate believer and intense critic of the service which is exactly what we need on Twitter, and in the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term,” Agrawal added.
