Houston (-2.5) over Villanova
Analytics tried to tell us all season that the Cougars were one of the best teams in the country. Now, it is obvious to everyone. Beginning with the run to the AAC Tournament title, Houston has won its past six games by double-digits, including an 18-point win over Memphis, a 15-point win over Illinois and a 12-point win over top-seeded Arizona. Despite missing multiple pieces from last year’s Final Four run, the Cougars remain elite on both ends of the floor and unstoppable on the offensive glass, where Villanova has little hope to stop second chances.
After quieting the more explosive Arizona offense, Houston’s elite perimeter defense will smother Jay Wright’s 3-point-reliant attack, which is shooting just 32 percent in the past two games. If back-to-back Big East Player of the Year Collin Gillespie enters at less than 100 percent — following a knee injury late in the Wildcats’ Sweet 16 win — Villanova could struggle to keep the deficit to single-digits.
