Virginia Tech buzzer-boutique is not enough

Florida survived the first buzzer-bust of March Madness.

Nahim Allenyi of 10th-seed Virginia Tech controlled the game-three-pointer in less than two seconds, but no. 7 Florida bounced back, winning the NCAA Tournament’s first win 75-70. His own clutch 3. Forcing overtime, the shot was Allene’s fourth 3-pointer game.

With the Gators leading by one point in the extra five minutes, Terence Mann took a step back from Dribble to go 3–3 overtime to take a 74–70 lead with 22 seconds left. The Hokies did not score again.

Florida, which was ruled out by a 10-point deficit earlier in the game, had a chance to close out the win in regulation, but missed a free throw to give Virginia Tech a second chance to tie it. This is the eighth time in its last. Eight NCAA tournaments appear that Florida, which will face forward No. 2 Ohio State or No. 15 Oral Roberts, will advance to at least the second round.

Florida star Tyree Appleby took an undisclosed elbow to the face in the second half and did not return.
