Yankees’ DJ LeMahieu is not resting on his laurel

TAMPA – DJ Lemahieu led the majors in batting average last season and is coming off a pair of the best offensive years in the game.

The Yankees star hasn’t reflected much on that, though.

“Because last year was good doesn’t mean anything,” LeMahieu said Saturday. “It’s a big confidence thing, coming last year, but at the same time, I’m not taking anything.”

That’s why he spent this past with one thing in mind: “Chasing perfection with my swing.”

His chase paid off well enough that LeMahieu re-signing Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was a top priority this winter.

After a lengthy negotiation, Lemahieu received a six-year, $ 90 million deal and the Yankees began with the rest of their plans, deepening the rotation, bullpen and outfield.

Not surprisingly, Lemahieu has the same mindset as the following

“There are not a lot of changes,” LeMahieu said. “Just getting back after that. … I had two of the funniest years in ’19 and ’20. The opportunity to do so is exciting for six more years.”

Gerrit Cole and Jameson Tillon are eager to see what the redesigned baseballs are being used by MLB, but are not concerned about the issue of coach Marcus Thames.

Asked whether the offense would change its “philosophy” as some believe the balls might not travel yet because the Thames used in recent seasons made it clear that it would not .

“No, we’re not changing our philosophy,” said Thames. “We are going to control the strike zone and try to kick some dust when the ball is in our damage zone.”

According to one source, the new balls will be used throughout the spring and no separate performances are expected.

Although Cole and Tylon said they were not even sure what ball they were throwing, Thames said the team had a few Fridays.

“I didn’t really tell the difference,” Thames said. “We are some very powerful people. I don’t want our people to think of baseball – other than hitting it.

To see if other teams or players have changed their approach, Thames laughs, “We’ll talk about this in November and see.”

Aaron Judge changed his workout schedule in an effort to avoid injuries and be more “dynamic”.

Thames said the judge’s’ swing feels good. All we want is to be healthy and hope that everything is safe. “

Right-hander Mike King is expected to start Sunday against Toronto, followed by Ashar Wojczkowski, Lucas Luetge and Kyle Barcloff, as well as Nick Goody and Adam Warren, who both return to the Yankees this offseason.

Aaron Boone said that while there have been some physical issues in the camp, Nestor Cortés Jr. is dealing with “ankle problems,” but should not miss any time.
