The Davidson Wildcats quietly have won seven straight games — each by at least nine points — as they head into their biggest test of the season, a game in Birmingham against Alabama.
The Wildcats’ run has been powered by outside shooting, as they rank fourth in the nation in 3-point shooting percentage at 41.6, a mark that is the same both at home and on the road.
The Crimson Tide are shooting just 33.5 percent from 3-point range, good for 152nd. And Alabama ranks a middling 140th in points allowed on a per possession basis on defense.
Alabama’s free-throw shooting is also a concern as it is making just 66.7 percent this season, which is 239th among Division I teams, while Davidson is converting on 76 percent of its free-throw attempts overall and 81.7 percent of them away from home, which ranks 14th.
The Wildcats have covered nine of their 10 games this season, and an offense that rates 13th in the country in points scored on a per-possession basis will give Alabama a scare it may not be expecting.
The play: Davidson, +7.5
