Giants want immediate impact from first-round NFL draft pick

The Giants have No. 11 in next week’s 2021 NFL Draft and need to get a player who, as a cheater in the 2021 season, should make an immediate impact.

So says Giants general manager Dave Gatelman.

“Yes,” Getman said on Thursday. “Cliff Note’s answer is yes.”

Does it give us any insight as to who Gaeltman will take? Well, two Alabama wide receivers, Davonta Smith and Jaylen Wadle, should be NFL-ready players. Cornerback Patrick Sart III should be another Alabama product as well. Is any torrent player considered a plug-and-play player a cheater? Probably not. Northwestern offensive lineman Rashavan Slater is expected to be an immediate 1 day starter. Linebacker Micah Parsons will hit the ground early in the NFL.

“It’s really hard to take a guy that 11 o’clock that you’re betting on capacity,” Gettman said.

As a Boston native and fan of the Celtics, Gaeltman pointed to Robert Williams as the Celtics’ first-round draft pick (No. 27 overall) in 2018. Williams averaged 8.8 and 13.4 minutes, respectively, in his first two seasons, and in his third season the Celtics’ potential he saw three years ago is beginning to be reflected.

This is not the time to wait for the Giants.

“In the NFL, I’ve really become cognizant of coaches,” Getman said. “They are under pressure to win all the time, every Sunday there is a referendum on his skills as a coach. You become really careful when you start taking people who have high skills that love you physical skills, ability, but how long will it take to show up on the field. He is kinda like I have to get the balance. “
