Jaguars' Urban Meyer gives Titans' Mike Vrabel cold shoulder during postgame handshake

Urban Meyer has not been kind to his assistants — current or former — this week, but he was particularly icy to Mike Vrabel on Sunday.

Vrabel’s Titans crushed Meyer’s Jaguars 20-0 in Week 14 to drop Jacksonville to 2-11 and officially eliminate them from playoff contention. Vrabel, who worked under Meyer for two years at Ohio State, was understandably amped about earning a season sweep over his former boss.

As for Meyer, he was less than congratulatory during their handshake.

That’s a pretty cold shoulder from Meyer to his former assistant, and that interaction certainly isn’t a good look for Meyer after yet another tumultuous week in charge of the Jaguars.

It was reported on Saturday that Meyer had c alled blamed his assistants for the Jaguars’ poor start to the season. He implied that he was a “winner” and that his coaches were “losers,” per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero

.

During a staff meeting, Meyer delivered a biting message that he’s a winner and his assistant coaches are losers, according to several people informed of the contents of the meeting, challenging each coach individually to explain when they’ve ever won and forcing them to defend their resumes.

Meyer denied that report after the game.

“Calling someone a loser, that is inaccurate,” Meyer said, per News4JAX. “I have high expectations of our coaches.”

Meyer might want to look in the mirror and raise expectations for himself instead after a rocky first season in Jacksonville. After all, the only assistant making him look like a loser is a former one on the other sideline.
