The mayor of Kyiv and his brother spent Monday walking through the war-ravaged streets of Ukraine’s capital after devastating Russian missile strikes.
A grim-faced Mayor Vitali Klitschko and his sibling Wladimir, both former professional boxers, climbed through the rubble of the city’s damaged buildings and destroyed vehicles.
“That’s what Russia’s war against civilians looks like,” the mayor said in a video uploaded to Twitter. “Destroyed buildings, destroyed infrastructure.
“City bus just got hit by the rocket,” Vitali Klitschko added, panning to a destroyed vehicle behind him. “Lives are getting lost. There’s the war that Russia started.”
At least two people were killed in the bus strike, with another nine injured.
Earlier in the day, a nine-story residential building in the capital was bombed, killing at least one person and injuring several others. Fifteen people were rescued and 63 evacuated, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service
.

Vitali said in a US TV interview later Monday, “Everyone [is] ready to fight.
“Nobody feels safety in our country right now, in this very difficult situation,” he told Fox News. “But everyone ready to fight, ready to defend our city.”
The former heavyweight boxing champion noted the reported decreasing morale among Russian troops, saying “so many people understand the senseless war.”
Ukrainian forces have held off Russian troops from entering and seizing Kyiv for more than two weeks, but the Kremlin has shown no signs of backing off its plans to capture the capital.
On Friday, Klitschko warned the city is still “under threat of invasion.”
“Every street, every house … is being fortified,” he said. “Even people who in their lives never intended to change their clothes, now they are in uniform with machine guns in their hands.”
