Two Milwaukee police officers were hurt when a suspect tossed “powerful” fireworks at them early Monday, department officials said.
The unnamed male officers were rushed to a hospital after someone threw the explosive at them at about 12:20 a.m. on North Water Street in downtown Milwaukee, police said in a statement.
“The device detonated, causing injuries to the officers,” police said. “The device is believed to be a powerful pyrotechnic.”
Both cops, ages 45 and 40, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries following the incident, which is being probed as a battery on a police officer. Details of the officers’ wounds were not provided.
“The officers were standing on the street monitoring the area,” a police spokesman said. “They were released from the hospital.”
No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon and investigators were asking the public for additional information. Anyone with details should contact Milwaukee police at (414) 935-7360.
