Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says he will “absolutely” support former President Donald Trump if he wins the GOP’s party nomination in 2024.
McConnell came to Fox News’s “Special Report with Brett Bair” on Thursday evening and indicated that some Republicans are already looking to run for commander-in-chief.
“I have got at least four members who I think are running for president, and some governors and others. There is no incurable. There should be a wide open race, “McConnell Told Host Brett Bair.
Backer then asked McConnell if he would support Trump if he were to win the party’s nomination for the next presidential election.
“Party candidate?” Absolutely, ”the Kentucky Republican replied.
After stepping down, Trump was impeached for the second time after House Democrats accused him of abetting the January 6 revolt of Capitol Hill, but the Senate failed to convict him.
The former president has since stated that he planned to remain active in the GOP, including the mid-term elections of 2022.
Utah Sen. Mitt Romney – who has been a fond Trump critic – recently told the New York Times that if Trump plans to run in 2024, he believes he will be the party’s candidate.
