Off-duty NYPD police killed in Long Island Expressway accident

According to police, an off-duty NYPD cop was killed in a car accident on Long Island late Monday.

Ryan McKenna, 30, was driving a bus from the 2018 Nissan Frontier East on Long Island Expressway, which was off 53, when the vehicle struck the median and overturned at about 10:55 a.m., Suffolk County Police said.

McKenna of Hicksville was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he died, police said.

The vehicle was fitted for a security check.

The NYPD confirmed that McKenna was a member of the department. No further information was immediately available.
