The Bronx and Queens Republican parties on Wednesday advocated the support of taxi drivers and bodagus Fernando Mateo for mayor.
Support from the two GOP county committees comes after days of support for Guardian Angels founder Curtis Salva for City Hall by the Staten Republican Party.
“Our city needs someone who is going to bring back the quality of our lives, which restores funding to the NYPD so that our roads can be safe again, making sure we get our fair share from City Hall Get and bring common sense solutions to your problems. We believe Fernando Matteo is the best candidate to make our city stronger and better than ever, ”the Queens County GOP said in a statement.
The Bronx GOP said in a statement, “In the Bronx, Republicans have made significant barriers to minority communities, and especially Hispanics. With Mateo at the top of the Republican ticket in 2021, we can replicate that success citywide and continue to expand the Republican coalition.
“Mateo brings an advocacy career to the small business community and that is exactly what we need to surround New York City. With Mateo at the top of the ticket, we would be in the best position possible to come out of the Democratic primaries to take on whatever Lonnie is on the left. This is the only way we can win, ”the Bronx GOP said.
Mateo, of Dominican origin, is the chief spokesperson for Hispanics Across America, NYS Federation of Taxi Drivers and United Bodgas of America.
Mateo was thrilled about receiving double support on the same day.
“As a Hispanic immigrant and urban Republican, I know that with this nomination, we are making history. The candidate said that I plan to live this incredible honor by working to ensure the safety of the public in New York and bring back business and jobs.
Other Republican candidates in the race include financier Sarah Turshwell and retired soldier Bill Peppitone, who had the support of the Conservative Party.
More than 30 Democrats are running to replace term-limited Mayor de Blasio.
Claimants include city Comptroller Scott Stinger, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, former de Blasio chief legal adviser Maya Wiley, former City Sanitation Commissioner Catherine Garcia, former federal housing secretary and President Obama’s budget director Sean Donovan, ex. -Tygroup executive Ray McGuire, former city veteran affairs director Lore Sutton and not-for-profit social services director Diana Morels.
