Two goals from Matt Martin cruised the Islanders by the Sabers

Matt Martin produced his first multi-goal game for the Surging Islanders on Thursday night in almost seven years, never ending in a 5–2 win over the Buffalo Sabers in Uniondale, NY.

Martin scored in an unusual period for his third career multi-goal game before scoring a second goal in the third and since his first he scored twice against the Carolina Hurricanes on March 25, 2014.

Noah Dobson scored beyond the first midway point while Anthony Bevillier and Jordan Eberle scored goals in the second and third periods for the Islanders, who have won five of the six (5–0–1) and won 10–2–2. Are 1. 1. Goali Ilya Sorokin made 16 saves.

Taylor Hall suffered an extended goal-scoring drought in the second period and Rasmus Risteltenen scored in the third for the Sabers, losing five straight (0-4-1). Goali Jonas Johansson recorded 30 saves.

Eberle scored the Islanders’ first goal in the Sabers zone, going deep from Dobson, who was fighting alone off the ice and fired a shot beyond Johansson’s stick, with 9:35 left.

Martin doubled the lead with a 3:39 lead, when his asymmetrical angle shot the net from behind Johansson’s facemask and reached the top of the net.

Hall hit Cody Ekin with a shot of 3:08 left after the season opener on 14 January.

Beauvillier scored with 5:02 to go in the semi-finals, following Bailey in Josh to level 5-2, Josh Bailey stole the pistol at center ice and went back to Brock Nelson, who had Bevillier nearby . Eberle rebounded Anders Lee and fired beyond Johansen’s glove at the 3:14 mark of the third.

Ristanten scored on a rebound at 4:09 after a shot by Jack Eichel, but Martin and Casey Sijikas teamed up on the final goal of the game. Martin and Czicus first won a long battle for the puck in the back of the Sabers net with Ristainen and Brandon Montour. Once the Cizikas controlled the puck, he turned to Martin to set a rare second goal for the 31-year-old fourth-liner.
