Online fundraisers to pay the legal fees of a man found guilty in the Georgia murder of Ahmaud Arbery were shut down this week, a rep for the website said Friday.
The crowdfunding platform GoFundMe deleted three fundraisers for William “Roddie” Bryan, 52, from its site after he was convicted last week in the fatal shooting of the 25-year-old black jogger, a spokesperson for the firm said.
“GoFundMe prohibits raising money for the legal defense of a violent crime,” the company rep told The Post.
The fundraising pages were set up by Bryan’s fiancée, Amy Elrod, with the goal of raising $300,000 to appeal the conviction of Bryan, who was found guilty along with father and son Gregory and Travis McMichael, according to NBC.
Bryan’s lawyer Kevin Gough quickly fired back at GoFundMe, saying his client is a victim of a “woke left mob mentality.”
“The right to counsel, a guarantee enshrined in our Constitution, means little if ordinary people like Roddie Bryan cannot raise funds for their defense — and that includes the right to raise funds for appeal,” Gough told the outlet.
“Cancelation of legitimate online efforts to raise funds [for Bryan] … is simply the latest manifestation of a woke left mob mentality that relentlessly seeks to undermine the institutions of our government,” he said.
Bryan and the McMichaels, who are all white, chased down Arbery after they saw him running through the Satilla Shores neighborhood and assumed he was a burglar in February 2020.
Travis McMichael blasted Arbery with a shotgun at close range as Bryan recorded a video of the fatal clash.
All three men now face sentences of up to life in prison.
