HOUSTON — The Yankees placed Miguel Andujar on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist strain. The left fielder/third baseman has not played since Tuesday.
“My sense is it’ll be close to that 10-day range,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Andujar’s absence. “My sense it was probably going to at least be a few more days. So obviously with the [All-Star] break, it made sense to go the IL route — especially being able to backdate it [to July 7]. Don’t want to speculate too much on it, but it was definitely at least going to be a few more days.”
Andujar had an opportunity to take advantage of playing time in left field with Clint Frazier also on the injured list, but those starts will now likely be split between Tim Locastro, Brett Gardner and Tyler Wade.
Frazier, meanwhile, is still not doing any baseball activities since going on the IL on July 2. T he Yankees initially said he was dealing with vertigo, after he left a game with complaints of dizziness, but Boone said that has now been ruled out.
“Most of the tests we’ve received have been good news,” Boone said. “I know they’re working through some vision things, neurological ophthalmologists, checking with his contacts and fitting for glasses and things like that.”
Boone said Frazier is “resting comfortably at home, but still having some vision issues.”
Zack Britton threw another live batting practice prior to Saturday’s game at Minute Maid Park, which “went well,” Boone said. He’s scheduled to throw a bullpen session during the All-Star break. If he doesn’t suffer any setbacks, he is set to return to the bullpen Thursday against Boston.
Four more players were named to the American League All-Star roster on Saturday to take the place of players who are skipping Tuesday’s game in Colorado — and none of the substitutes were Yankees.
As of Saturday, only Gerrit Cole, Chapman and Aaron Judge were set to represent the Yankees in the Midsummer Classic — and Cole and Chapman enter in the midst of horrific stretches.
To take Jonathan Loaisiga, who was placed on the COVID-19 injured list, and Andujar’s spots on the roster, the Yankees called up RHP Albert Abreu and RHP Brooks Kriske from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
