A new photo from The Batman shows off Zoe Kravitz’s take on Catwoman.

The Batman stands as one of the most anticipated films of the coming year. After seeing Batman battle alien life in the likes of Justice League, the character is going back to its street-level roots. The upcoming brooding and violent take on the Caped Crusader is directed by Matt Reeves, most well known for Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Played by Robert Pattinson, the film will showcase Batman in his early days, as he navigates the politics and crimes of Gotham as a vigilante.

Joining Robert Pattinson in the upcoming DC adventure is Zoe Kravitz, who has been tapped by Matt Reeves to play Catwoman. Footage from the trailers has shown Kravitz’s Selena Kyle suited up as the villain, giving us a glimpse at her simple, minimalistic suit. Ahead of the film’s March release, Empire magazine has released a brand new photo of Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman.

The still shows Zoe Kravitz’s Selena Kyle suited up as Catwoman, breaking into something or somewhere using a tool.

In a chat with the magazine, Zoe Kravitz teased her version of Catwoman. Kravitz specifically noted how she and stunt coordinator Rob Alonzo watched footage of cats and lions fighting to pinpoint Catwoman’s visual flair and fighting style.

“We watched cats and lions and how they fight and talked about what is actually possible when you’re my size, and Batman’s so much stronger than me. What is my skill? It’s being fast and tricky. So we did some really interesting floor work that incorporated different kinds of martial arts and capoeira and a kind of feline, dance-like movement.”

“[Rob]’s not just trying to do a bunch of impressive backflips that wouldn’t be possible for that person to do, and he takes into account where we are in the story and where the characters are emotionally. So it was really fun to work from that place.”

As for how invested Selina Kyle is in Catwoman’s career, Zoe Kravitz reveals that The Batman almost operates as an origin story for the character. This lines up with Bruce Wayne only being in his second year of crime-fighting.

“This is an origin story for Selina. So, it’s the beginning of her figuring out who she is, beyond just someone trying to survive. I think there’s a lot of space to grow and I think we are watching her become what I’m sure will be the femme fatale.”

Here is the official synopsis for The Batman:

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

Directed by Matt Reeves, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
