Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has the highest approval rating among federal officials and is the only one who enjoys support from a majority of Democrats and Republicans, according to a survey released Monday.
The Gallup poll also found that President Biden’s job approval rating remains underwater, with 51 percent disapproving and 43 percent approving.
Roberts tops the list with a 60 percent overall job approval rating and 34 percent disapproval rating, the survey says.
The second- and third-highest approval ratings in the poll belong to Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell (53 percent) and chief White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci (52 percent).
Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Attorney General Merrick Garland each have 49 percent approval and are the last two officials on the list to have a positive margin in their ratings.
Next on the list of 11 figures are House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (46 percent approval, 49 percent disapproval), Vice President Kamala Harris (44 percent approval, 54 percent disapproval), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (44 percent approval, 53 percent disapproval) and Biden.
The last two figures on the list are House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (40 percent approval, 58 percent disapproval) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (34 percent approval, 63 percent disapproval).
Approval of Roberts is consistent across the political spectrum, with 57 percent of Republicans, 55 percent of Democrats and 64 percent of independents saying they like the way he handles his job.
The poll was taken between Dec. 1 and Dec. 16, a period when the Supreme Court heard a number of high-profile cases that dealt with issues ranging from a vaccine mandate in California to abortion cases in Texas and Mississippi that could ultimately undo the 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade ruling.
By contrast, the approval ratings of Biden, Harris and Pelosi have the greatest variability among political parties.
While 78 percent of Democrats approve of Biden’s job performance, only 5 percent of Republicans and 40 percent of independents do.
Harris has the support of 77 percent of Democrats but only 7 percent of Republicans and 42 percent of independents.
Pelosi has the lowest approval ratings of the three among Democrats at 71 percent, while only 6 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of independents approve of her job performance.
Gallup said it selected the 11 figures for polling because they were the most high-profile figures in the federal government this year.
The poll surveyed 811 adults and has a margin of error of plus-or-minus four percentage points.
